Though, of course, purchasing locally made goods at a nearby Mom-and-Pop operation is clearly the ideal, occasionally an eco diva may have to dip into an H&M for a few guilty pleasures. Well, guilty has gone guilt-free with H&M’s campaign and fashion line dubbed Fashion Against Aids. The t-shirts, tank tops, and hoodies are all 100% organic cotton and 25% of gross sales go to AIDS/HIV prevention in 60 different countries. Adding to the extreme coolness factor, the designers are all incredible musicians and artists. The long list includes Rihanna, My Chemical Romance, Rufus Wainwright, Scissor Sisters, The Cardigans, Timbaland, Ziggy Marley, and my personal favorite, Justice.

The campaign focuses on bringing HIV/AIDS awareness to 15-24 year olds, as currently twelve million young people in that age group are now infected with the virus. The initiative for this collaborative venture was taken by Designers Against AIDS (DAA), a non-profit organisation that seeks to form public opinion through collaboration with fashion designers, musicians and other artists. All garments carry a special hang tag that reads: “This might be the most important piece of clothing you’ve ever had your hands on.” Well, we’ll let you be the judge of that, but this is undeniably a stellar effort by the DAA, the artists, and H&M to shine a light on a global problem that is in dire need of our attention.
