eco fashion news and reviews brought to you by Greenloop
Friday is a good day to look back at what was in the news this week on the eco-fashionable front lines. Since we have already covered and re-covered LA Fashion week, it will be almost absent from this post. Here we go:
1. Rashida Jones, who fans of The Office may recognize as Karen Filippelli, along with partner Angela Wilcox launches a new collection of eco-friendly apparel called Laloo. While the styles are pretty basic,(we all need basics) consisting of “swingy tanks, dresses, and layerable tees in the softest organic cotton, ”what I like most about it this news is Rashida’s statement to Lucky Magazine: “It was important that everything be reasonably priced and look great on a range of body types.” I know I am not alone is saying…FINALLY! Now let’s see if it pans out. You can read more in this month’s issue. Courtesy of Ecorazzi. Image Courtesy of WireImage.com
2. What does Sustainable Fashion really mean? Apparently Fashion Group International has the answer and you can pay $25 to find out. On Tuesday, March 25th, they will be hosting, “Sustainable Fashion: What Does It Mean?” They do have some good panelists to inform the masses. Tierra Del Forte is one, and she knows what she is talking about when it comes to organic denim, and Mike Korchinsky of Wildlife Works will be sure to have some good insights on fair trade and supporting developing nations through commerce.
3. The greenest jeans in the world, custom apparel, the life-cycle of linen, it’s all here courtesy of our friends at 1plus1 and Treehugger. This week’s SustainStyle, 1plus1’s weekly fashion digest for Treehugger gives us an inside peek at some of their favorites from LA Fashion Week, from a buyer’s perspective (as opposed to the runway). The Pursuit of Harmony Love Tunic..yes, we love it too.
4. We heard a lot about last year’s Eco-Petal fashion event at LA’s House of Petals, but not a peep about this year’s until now. Not sure if that’s a good thing…Maybe it was just super exclusive. The event looks to have been quite nice though. Green Girls Production held “Green is the New Black 2008″ in LA on March 6th, to benefit Brad Pitt’s “Make it Right Foundation.” The show featured EcoGanik, newcomer EcoSkin, (to make its Greenloop debut any day now) Livity, Clothing of the American Mind, My Rebe, and Raw Earth & Wild Sky, among others.
5. Crikey mate…(sorry, couldn’t resist..oh how I miss The Crocodile Hunter…). While we may not normally dish on kids-ware…maybe we should. Steve Irwin’s 9 year old daugther, Bindi Irwin has launched a clothing line with her mother, Terri. Fashion and conservation have joined forces with the official launch of the new Bindi Wear International clothing range. According to the Herald Sun, the clothing line was partly designed by Bindi during lunch breaks from school. The colors for the clothes have been chosen by Bindi, complete with slogans thought up by Bindi herself, such as “tigers should be loved not rugs”. The apparel, footwear and accessories designed for children up to the age of 10 years. Bindi’s line features a whole stack of gorgeous wildlife, and upholds the Irwin’s strong conservation values.
That’s a wrap. I am certain to have neglected something, so please fill me in! You can always send story tips to us at contact@thegreenloop.com. We really do want to hear from you.
