eco fashion news and reviews brought to you by Greenloop
By the time she was a teenager, Aysia Wright was already an environmental crusader. During high school, she initiated a community-wide recycling program and worked part-time at one of the original mainstream eco-centric retailers, The Body Shop. Throughout college, Aysia remained committed to her ideals, earning a BA in Environmental Science at San Diego State followed by an environmental law and policy-focused degree at the University of Virginia. Afterward, Aysia changed directions a bit. She got married and worked as an estate attorney, but soon wondered where her ‘green’ self had gone. So in 2004, Aysia opened Greenloop, one of the nation’s first fashion retailers to balance ethical considerations with serious style. Much to Aysia’s delight, Greenloop’s success has been proof positive that style and sustainable living are not mutually exclusive.
“I really think fashion is influential and, as such, it’s a powerful vehicle for education and change. It’s an easy way to spread a message without getting people on the defensive. Overall, it’s not about being perfectly green or perfectly fashionable-I am certainly neither…It’s just about taking steps in the right direction to live a more sustainable life.”

“People may think fashion is superficial…and they’re right. It’s our chosen surface layer…it is the intentional visual story we tell about ourselves, our taste, our values. Working with Aysia and the mission-driven designers of Greenloop is inspiring. They are trailblazing responsible manufacturing practices in a traditionally toxic industry and, in effect, making profound changes in the health of communities and ecosystems around the world. I love getting to tell their stories.”

Remy Chevalier is a regular contributor to In The Loop. Due to his father’s fashion photography career, Remy was raised in the editorial offices of ELLE magazine. He wrote a book about his high fashion childhood called ELLE on Earth. At the moment, he’s cheering Hachette Filipacchi, the folks who publish ELLE, to go beyond their one green June issue a year and green light a green fashion magazine prototype, Lü, (meaning green in Chinese.)
We think of Victoria as a creatively versatile eco-powerhouse. Freelance writer, life-long model, green business consultant, studying photographer, public speaker - she’s a classic Renaissance woman and mistress-of-all-trades with central Indiana roots.
Perpetually looking for fresh ways to share her unquenchable green knowledge, Victoria blogs about everything eco on her own website. Her diverse articles have been published in variety of reputable magazines, such as: Yoga Journal, CRAFT, Venus, ReadyMade, Yogi Times and Office Solutions. Most recently, Victoria added founding adviser of the GreenMUA project to her resume - connecting pro-makeup artists and stylists with green cosmetic companies.
In her spare time, you can find Victoria knitting, reading, singing, taking pictures, practicing yoga, taking long walks, and working on her first non-fiction book. Other random facts about Victoria: she’s a Buddhist, latex fan, has four tattoos, and is an attempting locavore.
Greenloop represents the fusion of aesthetics and ethics, of style and sustainability, by providing the opportunity to look good AND do good without sacrificing your sense of style.
