A Sprig Of Laurels For Vegan Queen

Sprig.com recently named the Vegan Queen City Bag featured on Greenloop as one of their 10 Best Handbags For Fall. These high-end vegan totes are made in the USA from non-toxic, recyclable materials. According to Sprig, the City Bag rocks because:

“A chic bespoke handbag is not just a place to dump your wallet and keys (although we do it anyway), it’s often a statement piece. This two-tone double-strap sophisticated bag evokes visions of country homes and white-glove service.”

We are glad to hear these Vegan Queen bags are grabbing some kudos in addition to their hefty pricetags. For every glamour kitten out there who simply refuses to choose fashion over humanity, Vegan Queen offers you a luxurious way to have your cake and eat it too. Delicious.

Greener With Glamour

Greenloop Featured In April’s Glamour MagazineNo, we’re not featured in the “Men’s New Sexual Needs” article, though that would certainly indicate the complete and total saturation of eco-consciousness into society. Greenloop is instead featured in “Every Woman’s Guide To Going Green,” in the April 2008 print issue of Glamour magazine. They suggest shopping online rather than driving to the store…

“Shop online, too. By some estimates, every minute spent driving to a store uses 10 times the energy of doing the same shopping on the Web. For eco-driven sites so good you’ll never miss the mall, visit nau.com and thegreenloop.com for fashion and econsciousmarket.com for home finds.”

I was impressed to see the real deal “Eco Experts” who gave them the tips for their green guide: Simran Sethi (Sundance Channel Green TV Host), Robbie Cox (President of Sierra Club), Gina Solomon (Senior Scientist at NRDC), and Jennifer Boulden and Heather Stephenson (Cofounders of idealbite.com), Diane MacEachern (Founder of biggreenpurse.com), and Rajendra Pachauri, Ph. D. (Chairman of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.) A list like this is so validating! Thanks Glamour.

P.S. When is Glamour going to start using post-consumer recycled content in its magazine production? Keep us posted-we can’t wait!

Rave Reviews: Sameunderneath – Portland Fashion Week

Tapping into the power of pop culture, Portland’s Sameunderneath has grown from a simple idea for a senior thesis to a nationally recognized sustainable clothing brand. According to Ecorazzi, celebs such as Minnie Driver, Ricky Martin, Ben Harper, Nelly Furtado and many others are dedicated fans of the brand.

Sameunderneath uses sustainable, renewable fibers (cashmere and bamboo) to create a line of well-fitting garments that fit in anywhere from a backyard BBQ to a summer concert stage. “Sameunderneath’s collection has been developed for conscious individuals that are aware of their personal effect on this planet through education, art, music, sport, fashion and life,” says the company’s website, which also has an online store with their most recent, Fall 2007, collection for both men and women. Most of their items are free of logos or designs, but a few (like the men’s shirt pictured here) feature images even a graphic designer would love.

On October 20th, Sameunderneath will premier their next collection at Portland Fashion Week, and you can be sure we are going to bring you all their stylish offerings.

Rave Reviews: Emily Katz – Portland Fashion Week

With all of Portland Fashion Week‘s exciting eco-events less than two weeks away, we are amped to have more of Emily Katz‘ intelligently simply line in our store again. Dedicated to using sustainable fabrics; such as soy jersey, hemp/recycled poly denim, water resistant fleece and organic cotton fleece; Portland-based Katz is a perfect example of modern, stylish, versatile clothing that is also “green”.

Emily’s self-titled line is noticeably free of embroidery, unlike her other brand called Bonnie Heart Clyde. “I wanted to make a line that I wanted to wear. I’m not as casual as the t-shirt with embroidery [the t-shirt with embroidered image being a staple of her Bonnie Heart Clyde line]. I want to put something fabulous on. And I wanted to go sustainable route,” Katz said in an interview with Ultra earlier this year.

On October 21st, her second collection under the “Emily Katz” label will premier at Portland Fashion Week and we are sure it will be impeccable.
